Apocalypse

The first part of Joel's prophecy addresses the calamitous plague of locusts that threatens to destroy the land.  The second part concludes the prophecy by looking to the future as it is fulfilled in the LORD's justice.  "Apocalypse," sometimes called "revelation," is a form that usually appears during times of stress and doubt about the future.

The book of Esther concludes with a dramatic reversal of fortunes for the Jews.  This tremendous victory points to the establishment of an annual Jewish festival.  In these final chapters, bloody though they may be, we begin to see the reason that this book was written in the first place.
