Beckers: "Nations will fear the name of the Lord"
“The nations will fear the name of the LORD, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory.” Psalm 102.15
June 3, 2009
Dear Family and Friends,
Reading a Psalm and a Proverb a day has been a feast for my soul. The verse above stood out to me last night because it reminded me why we are here: to see the nations worship the Lord! We want to be a part of bringing God’s Word to many peoples and nations so that many on earth will revere God’s glory. Millions of people and hundreds of languages do not yet have Psalms or Proverbs in their language. I can’t imagine not having those rich books of scripture to grow and learn from! Please pray that Bible translation will continue to progress, that more nationals will join the work world-wide, and that finances will be available to provide for all that it takes to get the Word of God into people’s hands. Praise God for our faithful financial and prayer supporters that have partnered with us on the Wycliffe Bible Translators team to bring God’s Word to the nations!
Another Great School Year Ended Last Week. Nate was busy preparing students for the end-of-year ceremony, which took place in the new auditorium (see pics on our blog). He also organized some audiences to observe his high school students’ final exam in his jazz class and in his vocal class. When I attended the jazz final exam, I was blessed to hear how much the students had learned from Mr. Becker in just one semester. I also sat admiringly watching my husband playing trumpet with his students and realized just how perfectly his teaching ministry fits with his gifts and passions. Praise God for this wonderful ministry he has given us together to disciple students through teaching music and being a part of their lives.
My Freshman Class Just Graduated—the Class of 2009. A month after I became Mrs. Becker in 2005, I began teaching this special class the Old Testament. They were young and immature in many ways, but I continued to invest in their lives through their sophomore year in New Testament class. It was amazing to see them grow and mature in their commitment to Christ. As they were upper-classmen I taught many of those same students in Spanish, Vocal Music, and piano. For me it was rewarding to see them graduate on Thursday and to hear them testify of their faith and their desire to continue to follow Christ in the next phase of their lives. We will miss them! Praise God for all He has done to develop the godly character of our senior class, and pray that they will continue to follow Him faithfully as they go from here to many nations.
My Parents Had a Wonderful Visit to the Philippines. We praise God that they were safe coming and going and that we were blessed to have such a special time with them. In addition to the fun of seeing Elijah interacting with his grandparents, I also really enjoyed watching my parents reach out to the Filipino kids and community when they were here. On Elijah’s first birthday, May 8th, we took 120 balloons (which my Dad blew up—way to go!), music on my mom’s i-pod and games she planned (good ideas, Mom!), and 4 huge suitcases of snacks for 300 people to the local community where Nate and I have been investing time this past year. About 200 kids and many adults were lining the streets when we arrived. For the next two hours we showed them God’s love through games, laughter, music, teamwork and giving. It was so special for me to see my parents interacting so lovingly with the locals. Praise God for this opportunity for outreach through my parents’ hard-work and giving, and praise God for our wonderful time together as a family. Please pray that God will provide for Nate’s parents to come visit us sometime—we miss them too! Also see tons more pictures on our blog!
We Praise God for you, and pray that His Word will also come alive in your hearts and lives. We pray that you will hunger for time with Him and that you will keep an eternal perspective as you focus on Christ and draw nearer to Him. May we all continue working together to see the nations come to fear the name of the Lord and worship Him.
All for Jesus,
Nate, Jessica and Elijah Becker
